Omicsboard Lab now runs on Linux. Many bioinformatics groups work on Linux workstations and servers, and until now they had to use a Windows machine or the browser. From today there is a Linux download alongside the Windows installer.
What you get
The Linux build is the same Omicsboard Lab: the notebook, Omi as your AI partner, and analysis that runs on your own machine. On first launch it sets up a local Python environment, then you can attach your data and work as you would on Windows.
How to install
- Download the AppImage for x86-64 from the download section on our home page.
- Make it executable: right-click the file, open Properties and allow executing the file as a program. Or run
chmod +xon it in a terminal. - Double-click it to start. There is nothing to install system-wide, and it needs no extra libraries such as FUSE.
Good to know: the Linux build is new. We tested it on Ubuntu under a desktop session and ran real Python analysis on it, but not yet on every distribution. If something does not work on yours, tell us which one and we will fix it.
What is not included yet
This release is for x86-64 Linux only. There is no ARM build yet. R analysis runs in the cloud rather than locally, as on Windows.
No Linux machine handy?
You can also use Omicsboard Lab in your browser with no installation at all. Read about the web version.
